Mary Shine Thompson PhD is the DCU Educational Trust’s representative on DCU’s Governing Authority. She qualified as a barrister in 2016 and now chairs Reparation Panels for the Restorative Justice Service. A second strand of her work relates to the promotion of the arts, especially as they intersect with education. In this capacity she assists the DCU team to integrate visual arts into the life of the university. She has acted as literary and arts advisor / consultant for various state and non–state bodies. She is a former chair of Encountering the Arts Ireland, an alliance of arts-in-education organisations; of Poetry Ireland, the national organisation for poetry in Ireland; and of Imram, the national Irish-language literary festival. Until 2010 she was Dean of Research and Humanities at St Patrick’s College and lecturer in English, and continues to maintain a strong interest in literary and academic affairs.
