DCU Access Students Take Off with Digicel Internship in St. Lucia

DCU Educational Trust is delighted to continue its partnership with Digicel to provide a completely unique summer internship experience for DCU Access students. For the first time since 2019, two final year students who have just completed their university courses will head to the Caribbean this June to complete a ten week marketing work placement with Digicel.

Through this partnership, which has been running since 2011, final year students, Glory Joseph and Karolina Kiecka will have the opportunity to work with the international mobile phone network provider, whilst also spending the summer in the beautiful surroundings of St.Lucia. We caught up with both students in advance of their departure:

Glory has recently completed her course at DCU as a Business Studies student, specialising in Marketing. Living with her family in Blanchardstown, Glory told us what it means to her to attain this summer internship.

When I attended a meeting about the company and the internship opportunity, I remember they stated that Digicel aims to ‘Create a world where nobody gets left behind’. This really resonated with me as an Access student and I was keen to take the chance on this fantastic opportunity.

Although at first it was hard to believe that moving to the Caribbean for the summer to work with such a well-established company was something that was within my reach, I was delighted to be offered the position. I am very grateful that Digicel see me as capable for the role and I will put my best foot forward as I hope to build my confidence in the realm of marketing and campaigns through this experience, as I develop my career in marketing going forward

Originally from Poland, Karolina moved to Ireland with her family at the age of seven in 2008. Now living at home in Monaghan, she has just finished her third and final year in Accounting and Finance in DCU and will complete a one-year Master’s degree in Accounting in DCU when she returns. Karolina hoped to work abroad for the summer and saw this as a great opportunity to do so.

Getting the chance to intern with Digicel over the summer is a huge opportunity for me. Coming from a small town in Monaghan, I have never travelled further than Europe. I think it will be a brilliant chance to experience a different culture, while gaining valuable work experience with a great company.

I hope from this experience that I will develop my working abilities and career prospects but will also get the chance to grow on a personal level too.
