The Role

The Communications and Events Executive is located within the Communications Team at DCU Educational Trust and serves to deliver quality communication materials and events in support of the Trust’s fundraising objectives. The role reports to the Communications and Campaign Projects Manager.

Event Management:

Working as part of the Communications Team, the role holder will assist the organisation of all Trust events (in-person and virtual) including our annual Leadership Circle Dinner, Memorial Scholarships Service and Ceremony and Access to the Workplace programme events. Event duties will include:

  • Guest management – from identifying invitation lists to issuing invitations and managing RSVPs
  • Booking logistics and liaising with suppliers
  • Preparing briefing materials
  • Developing event marketing materials

Stewardship Communications:

The Communications and Events Executive will assist the Senior Communications Officer in the preparation and delivery of scheduled communications for DCU’s supporters in keeping with our stewardship matrix. Duties will include:

  • Developing customised scholarship and project impact reports
  • Preparing and issuing monthly stewardship correspondence letters
  • Preparing and issuing seasonal mailings
  • Updating the Trust’s database with details of stewardship communications and events
  • Writing copy for bi-monthly supporter e-newsletters
  • Preparing content for DCUET’s annual impact report

Marketing Materials: 

The role holder will assist the Communications Team to design and deliver a range of marketing materials for use by our fundraising team. Duties will include:

  • Preparing impact stories and case studies for online and offline publication
  • Writing and designing fundraising proposals and stewardship reports
  • Liaising with photographers, graphic designers, printers and other external suppliers as necessary.
  • Maintaining a directory of all communication and marketing resources available for use by fundraisers.

Digital Communications:

The role holder will support the Communications Team to design and implement a digital communications schedule to disseminate DCUET content. Duties will include:

  • Creating and delivering online campaigns to promote DCU Educational Trust initiatives and fundraising appeals
  • Managing and posting to Facebook business pages, LinkedIn & Twitter accounts
  • Managing advertising campaigns on both Facebook and LinkedIn
  • Social media analysis and reporting
  • Website updates and maintenance
  • Maintaining and regularly updating the Trusts online donor rolls for individual and corporate supporters

Internal Communications:

The role holder will assist the delivery of internal communication campaigns to promote the work of DCU Educational Trust within the DCU Community.

The role holder may also be expected to perform other reasonable duties in order to assist the work of the DCU Educational Trust team. Occasionally they will be required to work outside of regular office hours, and they may be required to work where alcohol is served.

Experience and Qualifications

The ideal post holder will:

  • Have two years’ experience working in an events or communications role
  • Hold a relevant level 8 degree – PR/Marketing/Journalism qualification an advantage
  • Have excellent copy writing and editing skills
  • Have experience in all aspects of social media
  • Have experience using WordPress
  • Have experience managing a range of events
  • Be an effective collaborator
  • Have the ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise tasks during busy periods
  • Be highly computer literate
  • Have strong relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of using Microsoft Publisher or Adobe Creative Suite software would be an advantage.
