In June this year, Rachael Dunne joined the DCU Educational Trust team as Director of Development from her role as Head of Corporate and Major Donor Fundraising with Concern Worldwide.
Prior to her move into the not-for-profit sector, Rachael had an extensive career in financial services and trained as an accountant with KPMG. Rachael is a fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland, is a qualified financial advisor as designated by the Institute of Bankers (Ireland) and she has an MBA from University College Dublin.
As Director of Development, Rachael is responsible for developing and implementing the Trust’s overall fundraising strategy and is inspired by DCU’s mission to transform lives through education, research, innovation and engagement.
Speaking about her motivation to join the team, Rachael explained: “Throughout my career, whenever a C.V. from a DCU graduate has crossed my desk, I have sat up in my seat. DCU produces a special kind of graduate, better prepared for working life because of their INTRA work placements, with a strong understanding of industry and an unwavering focus on innovation, which is so important for graduates of the 21st century.
“I’ve been extremely lucky to have received support from others for my own education and training in the past. It makes absolute sense to me to commit myself to ensuring that other young people can overcome any barriers to education, and ultimately to support as many students as possible to join the pathway to the job of their dreams. I’m also proud to be part of a wider team at DCU that is pioneering a number of firsts: world’s first Autism-Friendly and Age-Friendly University, first in Ireland to introduce an Access Programme and Ireland’s first Chair in Data Analytics to name a small few. The list is long and growing.”
Rachael added: “The most enjoyable part of the role, aside from working amongst a young and vibrant community of students and academic staff, is meeting the supporters of the Trust’s work, who go above and beyond every day to open doors for Ireland’s youth and to ensure DCU remains at the cutting edge of transformative education.”
